Maintaining beauty and quality of your leather item is very easy by following few tips. Leather needs to retain its natural lubricants, as loss of it may cause it to whither away very easily. So as to replace loses during normal use we should lubricate it after every few use depending on the usage. Leather should be protected from dryness causing it to crack and also from excess of moisture as it might make it swell. These are the basic rules on which my tips are based
Tips:
1) Whenever a new leather item is purchased try applying lubrication, this helps it from getting any permanent stains from water spots. Don't use excess of lubrication, this may clog the pores and then stop the air flow through leather items.
2) Leather blazers, jackets should be hanged on well padded and wide hangers. Also keep your unused leather bags filled with some tissues or papers because this helps in maintaining its shape.
3) Ventilation for leather items is a must, so don't store them in any air tight compartments or bags, if using fabric bags keep it open for ventilation.
4) If your leather item gets wet don't use any external dryer like hair dryer, because this may fade the colors, let it dry naturally. Just when it is nearly dried apply conditioner this will help it to retain its flexibility.
5) If there are salt deposits on your leather shoes or boot, don't scrub them off use a wet cloth and wipe it then follow the procedure above.
6) If the conditions where you stay mostly tend to be dry condition then lubricate your leather item more frequently.
7) Let your Leather breathe, so don't use stuffs such as waxes or silicone based polishes, which does not help it doing so.
8) Solvents used for cleansing house or alcohol containing stuff should be completely avoided.
9) Don't use Turpentine or mineral spirits as they might absorb the Leather Colors.
10) Usage of mink oil or animal fats may cause the leather to darken so use it as you feel necessary.
I hope these tips help you take care of your Leather Items.
