More than a blip on the hip-hop industry radar, Canton Jones is fast becoming a much sought after recording artist. In less than five years and with three albums to his credit, Jones has mastered the art of appealing to mixed (children, youth, and adults) U.S. and international audiences. The distinguishing factor in Jones music is his lyrics. Also noticeable to many is Cantons seamless ability to create music and entertain without compromising his values. How does he do it? Jones attributes his ability, keen sense of purpose, drive, and devotion to having faith in God and a strong family network. There was a point in his life where Canton did not believe he could make music and still be a Christian so he settled for the former. He attended church for three years before getting saved and eventually, changed his direction. Now a member of World Changers Church International in College Park, Georgia, Canton finds satisfaction in having the best of both worlds. Dubbed as holy hip-hop and rhythm and praise, Jones music has also been labeled crunk and praise (C&P). Cantons summer 2005 project, the Love Jones album, was named for daughter, Love. Less like the movie by the same title, album tracks speak to having fun and enjoying life less stress and the heartaches that come with making the wrong decisions. His latest album, The Password: Access Granted was also released in 2005. In addition to a live recording, the album features tracks with holy hip-hop industry players, The Messenja, Mr. Del, and Big Ran. The album also includes fan favorites: Love Song, Everybody Dancin, Cute, and On the Floor. A supporter of youth, young adults, and community, Jones performed during David Banners Heal the Hood hurricane Katrina fundraiser. In tandem with notable industry counterparts, Canton held his own on stage--a glimpse of what is to be expected from this thriving artist. Canton Jones enters the game relatively close to the top. With versatility and crossover appeal, he is destined to change the face of hip-hop music forever. |
