Ironman Brasil -- About The Race

Author: Ray Fauteux

Consider Ironman-Brasil for your first attempt at Ironman glory. Many triathlons are very difficult to enter unless you are on the race-site the first day of entry or sitting at your computer. Ironman Canada for instance usually fills on the first day. Your chances of getting into the Ironman-Brasil Telecom race is very good.

If you want the perfect location and race for your first Ironman, give Ironman-Brasil serious consideration. Of course from North America it can be costly, but much like hawaii, you can make a holiday out of it as well.

The course itself also seems to suit the first time Ironman. The swim is protected so the water will not be rough. The course is a two-loop triangle. As an age-grouper Ironman-Brasil is allowing wetsuits to be worn.

The bike course is safe and relatively flat with some challenging hills.

The run is much the same and very scenic.

The transition area is well spotted near a water-park and shopping area, so family and friends will have lots to occupy them while you are out on the course.

The Ironman-Brasil Telecom race takes place on Florianapolis Island. Just one hour flight from Rio de Janeiro and San Paulo city.

The 2006 version will take place on Sunday, May 28 and the final day for registration is May 1, 2006.

The 2005 version had 1,172 entries and the 2006 race is limited to 1200 entries. Most ironman races increase in size every year until they finally fill on a regular basis. You will have extra time to enter Ironman-Brasil, but don't leave it too long.
