Correcting That Nasty Golf Hook

Author: Jakob Culver

A golf hook is when the ball strays severely from the right to the left or the left to the right. This is an error that beginners often make, but some professional players actually do it on purpose to place the ball where they really want it.

Holding the club with a firm grip and being sure that you have the club directed in the right direction will help immensely. Being comfortable with your grip and swing and practicing can help you correct your golf hook, or even use it to your advantage.

By practicing swinging without the ball you can make your swing become smooth like it should be. This will help you prevent stopping once you feel that the ball has been struck providing you with a nice follow through. You always want to move your body in the direction of where you want the ball to go.

In the game of golf, it is important to remember not to feel rushed. It is a game that requires thought and skill, both requiring time. Visualization is key when thinking of where you want the ball to go.

At the end of a swing you must remember that your weight needs to be placed on your back foot. Without doing this, a hook could occur. This is a common reason for the hook. With a little effort this can be prevented. Remember wherever the toe of your back foot is pointed is where you can count on the ball landing.

Your stance is also something you should put thought into. It is vital that your stance is strong and open. This should help prevent a hook as well. Practice all of the above and your game should improve vastly.
