Home Replacement Window Installation

Author: Kathie Stillow
Home replacement window installation is a great idea if you are interested in keeping your home more comfortable and saving on energy. These windows will save you on both heating and cooling bills. They also help to increase the value and add a touch of style to your home.

The first step to home replacement window installation will be to measure your old windows carefully to know exactly what size you need to purchase. Next you will have to choose the design and style of replacement window that you want for your home. Once these steps have been completed then you are ready to begin the installation.

When you begin actually home replacement window installation you need to remove the old sash. You then need to pry the inside stops off gently so they can be reused. The outside stops can not be removed because they are nailed to the edge of the sash. You will then cut and remove the lower sash them remove the upper sash.

The next step for home replacement window installation will be to set the window into the opening, if the measuring was done correctly then the window will fit snugly into the opening. If the window does not match the window sill perfectly then you may have to cut a support that will be used to match the window to the sill. Support strips can be used if needed. These would be located under the front edge of the replacement window.

You will want to use a carpenter's square to center the replacement window exactly straight then proceed to screw the sides tightly into place. Replace the inside stops and check the window to make sure it opens and closes correctly. You are now finished with home replacement window installation, ready to seal the window with caulking and begin to enjoy your savings.
