Methods of Porcelain and China Collectible Repair for Lladro and Hummel Figurines

Author: Charlie Foster

If you have ever broken one of your family heirlooms or a treasured collectible it is a good idea to understand what your options are for a successful restoration.

Most restoration companies offer four types of repair:

1. Rebonding : Re-assembly of existing Pieces without any color restoration. This type of repair is the least expensive.

2. Invisible : Where the repair is finally retouched, to match the surrounding decoration and finish. The majority of repairs of this type, are invisible to the eye. This type of repair is the most expensive.

3. Oriental : Filled areas are retouched with either gold laquer or leaf. Minimal retouching of decorative areas.

4. Museum : The filled areas match either the body color or base color.

Some objects once restored are for ornamental & display purposes ONLY. A restored object is best kept out of direct sunlight. Care needs to be taken when handling a restored object.

If you need an item repaired that you would like to be able to use for food or liquid ie; mugs, plates and platters, the only effective method is rebonding.

As with any service, the skill of the restoration artist is key to a good outcome so make sure that you are dealing with an experienced company.
