Hysterectomy and the Recovery Time

Author: Chelsea Aubin
If you are a woman considering a hysterectomy, then you obviously are looking for all of the particulars. Something every women has to consider is recovery time. There is a healing time that will have to be bared, and here is a little about it.

As women, we play out advantages whenever we can. Recovering from a hysterectomy will take some time and TLC, but it really isn't as bad as the physicians and patients who have had one years ago, would make it seem. Medical practices have improved, and the recovery involves minimal problems.

The recovery time does vary from woman to woman, and from procedure to procedure. An abdominal hysterectomy is a lot like a c-section. After c-sections, women find that they are in some pain and cannot move about like they would like to. You are likely to need pain medication for the first 2 day, and for as long as 2 weeks after the procedure. You also might have to endure a couple of nights in a hospital before they will send you home to recover. Laparoscopic hysterectomies are not as painful, and the recovery is not as difficult as an abdominal hysterectomy. Women who have the laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy discover an easy recovery time and often return to work within 5 days. In a nut shell, women who receive the LSH (laparoscopic hysterectomy) will have an easier time recovering than women who receive the abdominal hysterectomy, which is a very invasive surgery. Again, this all depends on the surgery, and if any complications arise.

It is important to remember that you can make the recovery process much easier on yourself, you must help yourself. Drink lots of fluids and start moving around as much as possible. Plan for a speedy recovery, and try to get on you feet as quickly as possible. You will feel better about returning to normal activities. Once you realize that you can do normal, everyday activities without the problems you experienced before your surgery, you will be happy you had it.
